Montis VC announced a €50 million first close for its new venture capital fund focused on energy transition, industrial transformation and AI-powered infrastructure across Europe.

At Commly, we have a soft spot for venture capital. Not only because we work closely with startups and investors every day, but also because part of our team comes directly from the VC ecosystem. That's why supporting venture capital funds in building visibility, credibility and access to founders has become one of our core areas of expertise.

Recently, we had the opportunity to support Montis VC in communicating the launch of its new fund and announcing a €50 million first close. The news was covered by leading European startup and venture capital media, highlighting a broader trend that is becoming increasingly visible across the continent: growing investor interest in technologies shaping the future of industry, energy and AI-powered infrastructure.

Europe Is Looking Beyond Consumer Apps

For years, venture capital headlines were dominated by software startups and consumer platforms. While those categories remain important, a growing share of capital is now flowing towards technologies capable of transforming entire industries.

This is exactly where Montis VC sees its opportunity. The fund focuses on early-stage startups operating at the intersection of energy transition, industrial transformation and artificial intelligence. These are sectors where innovation is often harder to build, but where the long-term impact can be significantly greater.

According to the fund's partners, the goal is not only to support ambitious founders, but also to back technologies that can improve productivity and strengthen Europe's economic competitiveness in the years ahead.

A €50 Million First Close Is Just the Beginning

The newly announced €50 million first close marks the beginning of Montis VC's broader fundraising strategy. The fund is backed by a combination of public and private investors, including the European Investment Fund through the REPowerEU programme, PFR Ventures, international family offices and entrepreneurs from across Central and Eastern Europe.

The team has already announced plans to continue raising additional capital in the coming months, allowing the fund to increase its scale and support a larger number of startups across Europe.

Initial investments are expected to range from €0.5 million to €2 million, with approximately half of the investment budget reserved for follow-on rounds. This gives portfolio companies access not only to early-stage capital but also to continued support as they scale.

From Montis Capital to Montis VC

The team behind Montis VC is not starting from scratch. Since 2019, its partners have invested approximately €30 million across nine technology companies through Montis Capital. The portfolio includes businesses such as Micromobility Port, Fresh Inset and Autofixer, all operating in sectors where technology meets real-world industry challenges.

With the launch of Montis VC, the team is expanding both its resources and its ambitions. Alongside a larger fund, the firm is building an international network of venture partners, entrepreneurs and industry experts capable of supporting portfolio companies as they enter new markets and prepare for future fundraising rounds.

Why Founder Support Matters More Than Ever

One of the themes repeatedly highlighted by Montis VC is the importance of founder-first investing. Beyond providing capital, the fund aims to actively support portfolio companies in areas such as strategy, international expansion and preparation for future investment rounds.

As the European startup ecosystem becomes increasingly competitive, access to capital alone is no longer enough. Founders are looking for investors who can help them navigate growth, open doors and accelerate execution. Funds that combine capital with operational support are becoming an increasingly important part of the ecosystem.

Building the Next Generation of European Technology Companies

The launch of Montis VC reflects a broader shift happening across European venture capital. Investors are increasingly focusing on sectors that combine technological innovation with long-term economic impact, particularly in areas such as energy, industrial transformation and AI.

For founders building in these spaces, access to specialised investors who understand both technology and industry may become one of the key factors determining how quickly they can scale internationally.
